The Factions of Eyuforyia: Designing Non-Humanoid Characters

By Teq Vault Narrative Team 7 Min Read

A look into our character design philosophy. Why did we choose to omit humans entirely and focus on organic animal avatars to battle the Tech-Biomes? It fundamentally changes how the player interacts with the world of Eyuforyia.

Shattering the Master/Pet Dynamic

The primary reason we chose to remove humans from this story is that we didn't want the creatures to be viewed as "pets" to be controlled by their masters. In most creature-collecting games, humans are the central figures—they are the ones collecting, building, strategizing, and commanding these characters in battle.

That dynamic creates a layer of separation. It turns living, breathing inhabitants of a world into mere tools or collectibles used to finish a human's story. In Eyuforyia, these characters are not fighting for a badge or a human's glory; they are fighting for their own land and survival.

"The aim here is for the player to see themselves through the lens of our heroes, not like a master trying to use pets to finish a story."

Autonomy in the Face of the Tech-Biomes

By granting full autonomy to our non-humanoid roster, the stakes of the conflict immediately change. When characters like Ice Heart face down the invasive Tech-Biomes, the conflict is deeply personal. They are defending their homes, their kin, and their way of life from a mechanized threat.

This philosophy ripples through every aspect of our transmedia pipeline. In our novels, these characters have complex societies, languages, and cultures uninfluenced by humanity. In QUETIEMALS, this translates to gameplay where every ability triggered on the board feels like a deliberate, self-determined strike rather than a commanded attack.

A World That Stands Alone

Ultimately, removing humans allowed us to build a more grounded, organic ecosystem. The heroes of Eyuforyia don't need a human protagonist to validate their struggle. By stepping into their world, the player gets to experience a purer form of epic fantasy—one where the wild fights back on its own terms.
